Welcome to Intelligent Reading Systems

The Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Reading Systems (IRS) of the Computer Vision Center (CVC), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a young research group that started its activities in 1997.

The IRS has large research and development experience in the following concerns: symbol recognition, indexing and browsing by graphical content, sketchy interfaces, diagrammatic reasoning and visual languages for graphic documents, document image analysis architectures, reading systems for forms and structured documents, camera-based OCR, fingerprint recognition.

In 2005 the IRS received the “Consolidated Research Group” label (2005SGR00472) from the Research and University Department of the Catalan Government. Currently, the DAG consists of 3 doctors and 10 pre-doctoral students.

In the last 10 years, the IRS has published more than 60 papers in relevant international journals and conferences, an developed more than 20 projects sponsored by both public and private funds.

Why document analysis?

Document Analysis is a discipline that combines image analysis and pattern recognition techniques to process and extract information from documents from different sources. Sources include either raster formats, after scanning paper-based documents, or electronic formats such as ps, html, pdf, etc. Research subfields include paper layout analysis, optical character recognition and graphics recognition.
